Very sad to hear the great Tam White died today. What a great singer and lovely, lovely guy. So many stories. Worked with him last year and he was so loving life and enjoying singing and going to the gym every day to overcome his bad lungs*. His passing, after the wonderful Toto McNaughton in 2008, marks a real end of an era, the era of the ‘gadgie’. The Edinburgh jazz scene has been blessed with a whole magical movie worth of amazing characters who are now gone- Toto, Jimmy Woods, Alex Shaw, Jimmy Gilmore, Lindsay Cooper. Gordon Cruickshank to name a few. Tam was always one of the real stars. Great voice. He wrote lovely songs. He told fabulous stories. He always had a twinkle in his eye as if he wasn’t taking anything too seriously. They don’t make them like that anymore.at the funeral
*At the funeral we discovered he did go the gym every day, but sat in the café holding court.
