Here is some electronic/non-jazz music I have made over the years – for film, theatre, dance and the rest. In particular I have had many great experiences composing music for dance and theatre – working with choreographers like Ruby Worth (Case for a Picnic/Hoops, Hats & Acrobats/ Multi-Story Karma Park/ACES dance) ), Kelsey Michael (Life on the Planet Surface), some amazing choreographers in and following the Off Kilter show produced by Morag Deyes – ( Priya Shrikumar, Jennifer Paterson, Steinvor Palsson, Daniel Aing, Errol White), and working with Annie Rigby and the Unfolding Theatre Company (Lands of Glass) and David Greig (Multi Story Karma Park, Danny 306 Musical). All of these experience were challenging, fun, transformative, creatively fulfilling and took me to places i would never have otherwise gone to musically and by doing so changed me as a music maker.
Please universe – give me more!
The music on this page means so much to me because all the pieces changed me during the process of writing them. With Kelsey back in the 1980’s I was writing on the tiny little CD display on a Korg M1 ( before I got my first computer) and produced the ‘Life on the Planet Surface’ track which is wonderfully bonkers especially considering the technological constraints. See video here. I also did a lot of live drumming with Kelsey improvising dance which is an amazing thing to do . With Ruby I did three or 4 shows which really made me go deep into using Logic as a composing tool and made me become much more comfortable and ease composing there, as well as spending time in the wonderful alternate universe of Ruby thinking. With Ruby we did a really ambitious big multi-media project with jazz big band, folk musicians dancing ( including Martyn Bennett) and some theatre mixed in with Michael Marra and David Greig. See the Multi Story Karma Park video here. Michael and Martyn met on that show and went on to make Grit together. The Off Kilter experience was wild – working with so many new musical influences and creative challenges. Loved it. And working with Annie and David in theatre was composing for the written word – which I had always been scared of before. And Ruby and Daniel actually got me dancing….. and Annie had me acting and singing…. SO if you have a minute check some of these out!
