“Members of the Pathhead Music Collective, a group of professional musicians who all live in the village of Pathhead in Midlothian, have between them collected 5 BBC Folk awards and 1 BBC Jazz Award over the last few years. But they excelled themselves this weekend with a clean sweep of the awards at the annual Rest of the World vs Orkney musicians football match at this year’s Orkney Folk Festival.

Karine Polwart shared the Best Player award with her brother Steven, and Tom Bancroft (who was in goal for the Orkney team for reasons that were never clear) received an award for services to Orkney football and…er ‘horticulture’ (sic). The coveted worst player award was scooped by fellow Pathheidian Inge Thomson, coveted it should be said because it was the only prize that came with a bottle of Jack Daniels!!
