This is a beautiful music manifesto/poem from the sorely missed wonderful person and musician – Scottish bass and tuba player Lindsay Cooper. Lindsay was a close to unique musician (at least in my experience) because he was equally at home playing dixieland and trad on the one side and out-to-lunch free improv on the other. I am not sure if he was that interested in anything in between. One of the greatest pieces of improvisation I ever saw was Lindsay doing a vocal and bass solo incorporating the word Absolut which was being beamed across the pub by laser as a vodka promotion. Sheer genius. I discussed it with George Burt in a podcast and it turns out Bill Wells was there and sent me a recording of it. Which I have now lost….
